Issue: Public Safety

The Issue area of Public Safety encompasses a wide array of Topic Areas. These include (and are not limited to) protection of the public, businesses, organizations, and public safety providers themselves.

Instruction: Under each of the topics below, please make your contribution of a proposal to deal with the topic/problem, or provide a statement of unintended consequences. Feel free to comment on any contribution submitted by others.
  • Officer Protection: Bullet Proof Vests

An important protection for all public safety officers is the availability of bulletproof vests. One Topic that needs to be addressed is the funding for the purchase and upkeep of the vests. While officers put themselves at risk for protecting our communities, the cost of purchase and upkeep is often left to the individual. This Topic area proposes that every community be mandated to take financial responsibility for the purchase and upkeep of any bulletproof vests needed.
